MLB’s #7 overall prospect making his big-league debut and one of baseball’s most dominant going head-to-head. BAL SP Grayson Rodriguez gets the much anticipated call up. He has a career 2.49 era across 69 minor league starts. He had a 2.2 era in 14 AAA starts last year. He has Elite stuff. Can touch triple digits with his fastball, has the best change-up in the minor leagues, throws a + Curveball, and has a slider in the arsenal when the curve isn’t getting it done. He would have made his MLB debut last year if not for a LAT strain. He faces a Texas line-up that’s been struggling, scoring a combined 4 runs in their last 3 games. There’s not much film to go on and nobody on Texas has stepped into the Box to face him before. Unfamiliarity always favors the pitcher. Backing him up is an O’s bullpen that’s been reliable. Their relief owns a 3.52 era, giving up 9 ER through 5 games. 4 of those ER came on opening day too.

Starting opposite the Rook is Jacob deGrom, who owns a career 2.55 era. One of MLB’s best for the last decade. He just started his Texas Rangers career with one of his worst starts ever. Which is actually a good thing. deGrom’s allowed 3+ runs in consecutive starts just 3 times in his MLB Career. That’s over the course of 210 starts. 2 of those came back in 2017 too. Prior to TEX he spent his entire career with the New York Mets in the National League. Baltimore plays in the American League, like Texas. That matters because there’s only 1 player on the Orioles roster that’s ever-faced deGrom before. The Rangers bullpen has been phenomenal too, leading the MLB with a .83 era.
